Iodine
Iodine is an integral component of thyroid hormone and controls the effects of thyroid hormone on brain development. An Iodine deficiency is the most wide-spread and preventable cause of mental impairment in the world. Many brain structures and systems appear to be affected by a deficiency of Iodine, including areas such as the hippocampus and microstructures such as myelin, and neurotransmitters.
